Summary
JOB SUMMARY The post holder has a dual role. They will manage and lead on the professional development and provision of supervision to nursing staff and mental health practitioners in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in line with service and trust objectives and in partnership with relevant staff. They will also provide highly specialist expert clinical intervention to partner services, agencies and vulnerable children and young people with mental health and Neuro Developmental Needs. They will take a strategic and leadership role in achieving the aims of the service including: Actively driving and shaping the Neuro Developmental and mental health pathways in service to ensure the highest standard of care. Leading on services consolidation as well as expansion in line with service and trust objectives and in partnership with the General Manager and wider managerial and clinical leadership team. Provide professional leadership, advice and managerial supervision to nursing staff within CAMHS and, where appropriate Mental Health Practitioners also external agencies. Provide strategic nursing input at a senior level across Barnsley CAMHS, ensuring effective advice to the senior management and clinical team. Provide expert CAMHS consultation, assessment and intervention, effectively identifying and diagnosing the cause of emotional and behavioural problems in children within Barnsley CAMHS . The postholder will be responsible for a caseload aligned to their area of specialist practice. Take on a strategic lead on the development of nursing and mental health led pathways for vulnerable children and young people. Be responsible for leading and researching the effectiveness of practice development and the advancement of care within CAMHS, specifically in relation to vulnerable children including Looked After Children and those with Neuro Developmental Needs. The post holder is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge and develop practice in the specialist area at a national level, through publications, conference presentations and participation in seminars. This requires academic standards at least at masters level The post holder is expected to work with the senior leadership team to drive the development of nurse led pathways across Barnsley CAMHS including Trainee Nurse Associate roles. The post holder will have a proven track record in achieving the highest standards in the management of people and services and in the delivery of complex CAMHS interventions. The post holder will liaise with medical and adult mental health professionals internally and externally and across a range of settings and work autonomously within professional practice and Trust guidelines. The postholder will contribute to policy and service development, contribute to research, service evaluation and audit for the service and contribute to the training of the clinical team and others. This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The postholder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed. The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments. KEY RESULT AREAS: To develop and direct Barnsley CAMHS in conjunction with Clinical Leads, senior management and in line with Trust strategy. To develop and implement effective multiagency working reflecting the changing demands and thresholds of the service. To ensure that the service remains service user focused, safe, effective, competitive as well as productive within the resources available. To promote developmental opportunities for others within the team. To foster, promote and support the multidisciplinary way of working. To access training and demonstrate learning appropriate to area of specialism. To communicate complex and sensitive information to C&YP, parents, carers, professionals and other agencies/services as appropriate. To use resources effectively and creatively in order to achieve best value, meet financial targets and ensure that staff recruitment and retention meets service needs. To ensure that clinical governance requirements are met and participate in Trust clinical and research governance activities as appropriate to own role. To develop the annual service line and team job planning. To develop and implement staff performance management systems to ensure that key performance indicators are met (locally or nationally). To manage performance, ensuring that service requirements are met and, where appropriate, effective and efficient enforcement action is taken. To have an up to date clinical knowledge of a range of mental health problems including specific knowledge related to vulnerable groups of young people e.g. Looked After Children, Neuro Developmental and trauma To identify client need and mobilise available resources as appropriate. Formulating mental healthcare treatment plans that are specific to each C&YP and family/carer. To identify safeguarding concerns and implement safeguarding policies and processes for individual cases. To safeguard C&YP, their families/carers and the public using safeguarding directives, trust and service policy. To utilise skills to manage conflicting and complex information, communicate effectively and deal with situations and problems of an emotive and demanding nature, taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication. To actively support service user involvement at all levels of service provision. To explore the potential for collaborative working and take opportunities to initiate and sustain such relationships in order to improve service delivery. To liaise and work with voluntary and statutory agencies. To participate in and represent the service and team at meetings. To chair, and manage meetings in multi disciplinary and multi-agency settings. To adhere strictly to information governance and documentation procedures and utilise IT systems to ensure accurate recording and reporting of work. Ensure personal professional registration is always up to date and appropriate professional development is undertaken. To ensure that responsibilities under health and safety at work legislation are complied with. To undertake serious incident investigations as required. To conform to, actively commit to and promote the service and SWYPFT standards with internal and external parties. To undertake other duties as reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post.
