Summary

Lead the pharmacy service in the Emergency Department following current professional standards and clinical governance. Ensure safe and prompt discharge of patients from ED and admissions areas. Serve as a specialist role model and expert in emergency, acute, and general medicine, providing advanced information and advice to healthcare staff and patients, both within and outside the Trust. Achieve expert clinical pharmacist status in medicines optimisation, reconciliation, and clinical assessment. Guide and enhance the pharmaceutical and operational skills of junior pharmacists, technicians, trainees, and other Trust staff within ED and other areas. Ensure regular pharmacist participation in post-take ward rounds. Focus on clinical risk management, quality assurance, and medicines optimisation to support ED pharmacy services and safety objectives. Oversee ED-specific governance, including quality management systems, policies, and procedures. Lead the creation of ED policies, education, and training materials. Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to develop site-specific training for pharmacy staff. Engage in Urgent and Emergency Care Clinical Business Unit meetings to address issues and promote improvements. Contribute to and provide feedback from relevant Clinical Business Unit meetings and project boards. Build networks with key organisations for the development of best practices and workflow standardisation. Assist in identifying and managing priorities and risks associated with the pharmacy ED service. Support change management, marketing, communication, and implementation plans for the ED pharmacy service, leading their adaptation for the Trust. Offer continuous support to staff for effective management of changes and issues. Lead the evaluation of relevant KPIs to demonstrate the value of the ED pharmacy service. Aid in developing data systems for a quality and/or efficiency dashboard. Implement systems to monitor therapeutic changes related to medication use and safety, ensuring integration into clinical ED systems. Collaborate with various areas on clinical and financial aspects of drug prescribing, including protocols and budget management.
