Summary
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the largest non-metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service in England, is on the lookout for a Home Safety Team Manager to join our Community Safety team at our Service Headquarters in Exeter. This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) that offers a competitive salary starting at £38,220, rising annually to £40,777 per annum.
You will support the reduction of risk in the communities of Devon and Somerset by:
-Line management and leadership of the Coordination team who engage with our communities to reduce incidents, injuries and deaths ensuring we are inclusive and reaching those most at risk.
-Involve under-represented communities in development and delivery of local safety initiatives.
-Increase resources, capacity, cohesion and resilience in communities and your team to deal with issues of safety and risk.
-Support the delivery of in the person-centred approach in delivering prevention activities.
-You will support the Home Safety Partnerships team in implementing Service policy, procedures and resources relating to Home Safety activities across DSFRS.
Key Responsibilities:
-Direct line management of the Home Safety coordination team including Recruitment, Probation Reports, PPD, Leave, Training, Performance Management and Welfare. Provide mentoring, support, ongoing guidance and ensuring that work is allocated appropriately, work plans agreed, results are monitored, feedback given and any performance issues are resolved.
-To provide mentoring support and guidance through the Personal Performance & Development (PPD) process for direct reports and ensure all staff receive appropriate training and development to enable them to carry out their role effectively and efficiently.
-To provide data on performance management reporting and effective data and evaluation to the Home Safety and Partnerships Manager.
-To assist with creation, implementation and evaluation of the Community Safety Prevention policies and processes.
-To line manage the coordination team in your command area by supporting generation of Home Safety Visit referrals to our target audience.
-Maintain a professional knowledge by networking, attending training courses, benchmarking performance against other Fire Services and reviewing professional publications.
-Ensure direct reports understand and apply DSFRS policies and procedures to maximise impact and performance.
-Manage performance and development by monitoring and supporting Home Safety coordination team in line with requirements of relevant human resource policies and processes.
-Maintain confidentiality of information and records securely and appropriately.
-Support the representation of the Service for existing networks within DSFRS and externally such as the Firekills partnerships, and to feed back relevant information to senior management to support at a strategic level.
-Monitor effective exchange of information with staff, partners, and external agencies in line with DSFRS information assurance policy and procedures and compliance with GDPR.
-Report to Line Manager frequent progress updates on delivery of Home Safety activities.
-Attend training events as directed and take part in the Personnel Performance and -Development Review Process to identify training and development needs.
-Complete risk assessments for Home Safety activities under the supervision of senior managers.

-Experience of direct responsibility for leading and managing administration teams/an administrative function within an organisation.
-Proven ability to implement and evaluate programmes and resources such as a Home Safety and Partnerships activity.
-Ability to set targets, provide support and to manage performance effectively.
-Experience of demonstrating emotional resilience when exposed to situations related to sensitive information (such as within safeguarding and emergency services working).
-Extensive demonstratable experience of managing and leadership to include: motivating, support, delegation, coaching, mentoring and performance review/management and promoting an inclusive culture of equality, diversity and fairness.
-Proven ability in identifying and implementing continuous improvement and standards of excellence, identifying and accessing opportunities.
