Summary


The Group Director of Hard FM (Estates) will effectively lead the department which covers all traditional ‘Estates functions’ and is primarily responsible for providing professional, effective and efficient customer focused reactive and planned maintenance services to the Groups premises, engineering services plant and equipment, external grounds maintenance and improvements. The post holder will also be responsible for strategic advice on the development of the engineering and building elements of the Group’s hospitals as well as minor improvements, refurbishment works, plant replacement programmes, energy management and installing and operation of plant and equipment to get to net zero carbon in accordance with the Group Green Plan. The department also covers delegated capital projects and similar services to other third party organisations through Service Level Agreements.

The post holder is an integral part of the Group’s Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (FIE) senior leadership team and along with the Deputy Group Chief Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment Officer supports all or any of the listed duties relating to Estates matters

The Post holder will provide leadership, management, technical expertise and guidance for the safe and effective use, operation, maintenance and development of the Group’s Estate and Estates Maintenance Team functions. This demands a highly dedicated, professional and proficient level of leadership, management and commitment from all members of the Hard FM Team to deliver necessary services to provide and maintain a suitable environment to meet the Groups overall objectives and provide a suitable and acceptable environment for the provision of healthcare services in the 21st Century. The post holder will be responsible for approximately 100 staff comprising professional, technician and trades staff and other staff within the Hard FM team.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate

more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000 strong workforce.

This post brings together all aspects required for the safe, regulatory compliant, effective and efficient operation of the Group’s estate, buildings, plant and equipment. The post holder shall also ensure that the morale of staff within the team is at a satisfactory level and that the team feels engaged with the FIE directorate and the wider Group.

The postholder will ensure that the best possible environment and Estates Service is provided 24 hours a day to the Group within available resources for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff across the Group’s various sites.
