Falkirk’s Education Services is seeking a dynamic, ambitious and forward-thinking leader to become Head Teacher of our Inclusion and Wellbeing Service (IWS). This role offers the chance to review and refresh the service’s vision to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time. As Head Teacher, you will be key to transforming delivery, redefining scope and reach, and working with children, staff, schools, families and partners to improve outcomes for all. You will shape the direction of the service and establish an innovative approach to inclusion and wellbeing for learners requiring support to engage in education and achieve positive outcomes.

IWS Campus
You will lead the future direction of the service, ensuring clarity around its purpose and how it connects with mainstream schools. A central task will be overseeing the relocation from Laurieston to the new Dawson Campus in Langlees. This modern facility will enhance in-reach support, strengthen partnerships, and deliver a high-quality curriculum through effective teaching and learning. Currently supporting up to 42 children and young people aged 5–18, the service also works closely with families, and the move provides a significant opportunity to broaden experiences and opportunities for all learners.

Outreach Services
The Head Teacher will lead a service-wide outreach model, building capacity in schools to support children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, ensuring help is available within their own community and school. You will also hold strategic oversight of attainment for all care experienced children and young people in Falkirk. While their daily learning remains the responsibility of their schools, you will provide leadership and coordination to secure consistency, ambition and improved outcomes. This will involve close partnership with mainstream schools, wider Council services and external partners to ensure every young person is supported into a positive destination on leaving school.

The outreach team will also develop a ‘virtual school’ to extend support for interrupted learners and complement existing provision. The service will contribute to Falkirk’s ‘Closer to Home’ strategy, ensuring smooth transitions and maximising opportunities for young people to engage locally. Education Services are committed to tailoring learning to need, requiring a model that offers curriculum and experiences in person and virtually, responsive to each learner.

The Head Teacher will lead a large team, including 2 Depute Headteachers, 3 Principal Teachers, teachers and support staff, delivering both in-reach and outreach. You will work creatively to support learners with social, emotional and behavioural needs who face barriers to engagement, learning and attendance. Strong partnership with schools will be vital, ensuring establishments can enhance provision for all children and young people, while building capacity and strengthening approaches to deliver a personalised and relevant curriculum across diverse contexts.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the delivery of this ambitious service, requiring a clear vision, creativity and forward thinking.

You will be contracted to work 35 hours per week.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be required to gain/maintain PVG scheme membership.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity and think you have the required leadership skills and experience, all enquiries should be directed to
