Summary

We are seeking a resilient and passionate SEMH Maths & Science Teacher to join a SEMH school in Harlow. This is a full-time, permanent role available for an immediate start, offering the chance to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who require an alternative to mainstream education.

As a subject specialist, you will deliver both Maths and Science across KS3 and KS4, tailoring your teaching to small groups and individual learners. Lessons are delivered in a supportive, structured environment that prioritises emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress.

This position is ideal for a teacher who thrives on building relationships, adapting their approach, and using creativity to engage students who may have faced barriers to learning. You'll work closely with a collaborative team of educators, therapists, and support staff who share a commitment to inclusive and student-centred practice.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Maths and Science lessons for SEMH learners


Adapt content for small groups and individualised learning plans


Support students' academic, social, and emotional progress


Collaborate with colleagues, families, and external professionals


Track and assess progress, feeding into EHCPs and reviews


Maintain a safe, calm, and structured classroom environment


Contribute to the wider life of the school and enrichment activities


Qualifications and Experience

QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent


Subject knowledge across both Maths and Science at KS3-KS4


Experience in SEMH or alternative provision (desirable)


Strong classroom and behaviour management skills


A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach


Excellent teamwork and communication skills
