Summary

Position Title: Clinical Coder Reports To: Operations & HR Manager Location: Northgate Medical Practice Hours: 08:00 16:30, Monday to Friday Role Overview The Clinical Coder will be responsible for accurately recording, coding, and maintaining clinical data to support the delivery of high-quality patient care and compliance with practice standards. This role requires attention to detail, accuracy, and effective collaboration with both clinical and administrative staff to ensure that patient records are complete, consistent, and correctly coded. Key Responsibilities Accurately enter SNOMED CT codes into patient medical records, ensuring the correct and most relevant codes are used. Ensure all coding complies with practice standards, contractual requirements, and practice policies. Work collaboratively with clinical staff to clarify information and resolve coding discrepancies. Maintain patient records in line with confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection requirements. Assist with audits, reporting, and data validation by providing accurate coded information. Support the practice in achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other performance targets. Contribute to the continuous improvement of data quality across the practice. Person Specification Essential Skills & Experience Previous experience in clinical coding or medical records management. Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection regulations. Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage workload effectively. Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Docman and EMIS. Desirable Skills & Experience Knowledge and practical use of SNOMED CT codes. Experience working within a primary care environment. Understanding of QOF and practice reporting requirements. Relevant coding qualification or formal training. Ability to work effectively under pressure.
