The Role: Teaching Assistant (Mainstream Secondary)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic and forward-thinking secondary school in Wakefield. This is a full-time,position, with an immediate start available. As a key member of the support staff, you will play a crucial role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, promoting their independence, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. You will work closely with class teachers, providing tailored support to individuals and small groups, both within and outside of lessons. Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in a secondary school setting.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

  • Adaptability: The ability to adjust your approach to meet the varied needs of students across different subjects and year groups.
  • Patience: A calm and patient demeanor when working with students who may be facing challenges.
  • Teamwork: The capacity to collaborate effectively with teachers and other support staff to ensure cohesive student support.
  • Initiative: The ability to take initiative and work independently when required, anticipating student needs.
  • Empathy: A high degree of empathy to understand and respond to students' emotional and academic needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing in-class support to individual students and small groups.
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson preparation and resource creation.
  • Helping to manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and those with English as an additional language (EAL).
  • Encouraging student engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Supervising students during break times and school trips.
  • Liaising with parents and external professionals as required.
  • Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
  • Providing feedback to the teacher on student progress and challenges.
  • Promoting independence and self-confidence in students.
