Summary
1. To carry out frequent patrols of the Hospital site in the vehicle(s) provided or on foot as appropriate and respond to any security-related incident in a calm, professional and efficient manner and working closely with the Police as required. 2. To deter, prevent, detect and initially investigate incidents of theft or criminal damage, liaise with the Police as necessary and take steps which may lead to apprehension of the person responsible. 3. To review, assess and advise, if necessary, departmental heads and employees on matters relating to improving security. Initiating new security procedures where appropriate, with the approval of the Departmental Manager. 4. To lock and unlock certain areas and set and deactivate intruder alarms as required. In the event of any alarm being activated, to immediately investigate and liaise, if necessary, with the civil police as required in accordance with set procedures. 5. To liaise with the Estates Department on security maintenance matters, e.g. lighting, broken windows, locks, swipe card readers, etc, at the Hospital site. 6. To undertake appropriate action in accordance with current fire procedures. Directing and assisting the Fire Service and as required, out-of-hours key-holding services. 7. To assist in preventing acts of violence or disorderly or abusive conduct on the City Hospital site and detain/restrain offenders for handover to the police as required. 8. To respond to intruders, lift and fire alarms, taking charge of the incident until the arrival of a senior member of staff or external emergency services. 9. To assist in searching the Hospital sites for patients absent from ward areas, in accordance with Trust procedures, taking into account the vulnerability and medical condition of the patient. 10. To accompany staff carrying Trust/patient money/valuables as required. 11. To complete daily vehicle pre-use inspection sheets and take remedial action as required. 12. To provide incident statements and attend court on behalf of the Trust. 13. To collect the Trusts post from the Post Office sorting office as required. 14. To carry out regular cash collections from departments as defined in standing financial instructions. 15. To escort finance staff when collecting cash from vending machines etc. daily or as required. 16. Allowing out of hours access to the cash office as appropriate. 17. Producing replacement I.D. cards for Trust staff out of hours and operation of the Trusts Access Control systems 24/7. 18.Respond to Fire Bleep and other alarm activations in the absence of the Security Team Leader. 19. Assist with on the job training for new Security staff as required. 20. To escort staff/visitors across site out of hours as requested. 21.To provide a key holding service for the accommodation department issuing/receiving keys as required. 22.To question trespassers and unauthorised persons on hospital property in accordance with procedures and expel or handover to the Police as required. 23.To assist medical and nursing staff when requested in the restraint or detention of patients, while assessments of their mental state are undertaken or other treatment is given in accordance withy Trust policy. 24.To control traffic systems, to include, car parking arrangements and associated equipment on hospital property. Day-to-day aspects of controlled car parking and traffic management e.g. minor (non-electrical) routine maintenance, issuing concessionary parking offence tickets, vehicle clamping and emptying maintaining pay and display machines as appropriate. 25.To maintain a Daily Occurrence Log and a temporary instructions book as required. In addition a personal notebook detailing a log of the tour of duty and make reports in writing or electronically, on any incidents, which occurs at the earliest available opportunity. 26.To deal with incidents relating to lost and found property and to handle lost and found property in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures. 27.To undertake appropriate mandatory training for Health & Safety at Work; industrial accident prevention; fire prevention; first aid; general security; and control, restraint and breakaway techniques and to undertake other training determined by the needs of the Department and/or legislation. 28.To operate and monitor Closed Circuit Television and associated equipment as required in accordance with procedures. 29.To provide a key holding service for the site. 30.To carry out duties as per Departmental and Trust procedures as defined in: Major Incident Plan, Business Continuity Plan, and Child Abduction Policy or as defined by other Trust Policies and Procedures or the Duty Manager/On Call Executive
