The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has a requirement to meet its obligations under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 (the Act) with regards to emergency preparedness, accident and disaster response, and business continuity arrangements. HM Coastguard (HMCG) deliver these responsibilities by ensuring there are suitable arrangements in place for managing foreseeable risks and for planning and responding to incidents that require a multi-agency response. This is undertaken through the development and management of plans and procedures that are validated and tested to mitigate and ensure continuity of business in respect of these foreseeable risks and threats.

The role holder will support the Civil Resilience Lead in the development of plans, procedures and capabilities relating to Civil Contingencies matters that ensure HMCG complies with its duties under the Civil Contingencies Act, and to enable HMCG, through its officers and its partner responder agencies, to deliver its core Coastguard missions, and an effective and comprehensive response to major and other multi-agency incidents. The role holder will support preparedness, response planning and command structures in response to complex and protracted incidents and liaise with other emergency response partners and agencies to facilitate a joint shared understanding of risks and capabilities for responding to multi-agency incidents and civil emergencies within Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

Assist the Civil Resilience Lead in developing HMCG strategy in meeting its obligations under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004Be a point of contact for advice on business continuity arrangements for HMCGContribute to planning and delivery of professional and technical development of Coastguard staffProvide advice for HMCG Directorate staff on Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP)Provide support to assist other responder agencies and partners understanding of HMCGs functionsProvide guidance and support to HMCG Directorate staff
