Summary
The Governors of Aberdare Community School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and committed literacy support assistant to work specifically with individuals and small intervention groups to improve pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills.
This exciting opportunity will give the successful candidate a pivotal role in the development of essential literacy skills which are fundamental to success in all areas of learning and life itself. The ideal candidate will have a previous record of working in a secondary school. A working knowledge of Accelerated Reader, Progress in English and Lexonik together with the Microsoft Office suite of programs would be advantageous.
A real desire and passion to help young people with their confidence in these key areas is essential. A calm, caring and patient teaching style to foster constructive relationships with pupils is necessary to build a ‘can do’ attitude and resilience in the target groups. The ability to work as part of a team is critical as close liaison between teaching staff, pastoral staff, and parents is essential to the role and therefore the post requires excellent communication, organisational, and record keeping skills.
The school opened in the summer of 2015 and is part of the 21st Century school building programme. Our facilities include a modern teaching environment with state of the art computer and technology facilities, including a Lecture Theatre. The school is attached to the Sobell Leisure Centre which offers extensive opportunities for pupils, including an all-weather playing facility and newly opened athletics stadium.
