Summary

Whipps Cross University Hospital
Trust Doctor (ST3+ Level) in General Medicine
Fixed Term 12 months

There’s never been a better time to join Whipps Cross University Hospital. This is a large, friendly District General Hospital, located on the edge of Epping Forest in Leytonstone, which is undergoing a period of regeneration and renewal. We are a centre for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, who attract students from London teaching hospitals as well as overseas, and have an excellent training and work environment with support given to doctors wishing to undertake research or further medical qualifications. We are known for caring for patients with a fascinating spectrum of medical conditions, providing an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills in preparation for the MRCP examination. Trainees are supported by a very well organised Medical Education Centre and candidates for these Clinical Fellow posts will be given the same study leave time allowance and teaching opportunities as those in formal training posts.

The Department of General Medicine at Whipps Cross Hospital aims to offer a comprehensive range of services to the local population of Waltham Forest, Western Redbridge and the neighbouring part of South West Essex. The department regularly sees a rich mixture of pathology and complex psycho-social issues. The local population contains a significant level of older patients with frailty and high rates of dementia and associated delirium.

The inpatient service comprises of two general medicine wards, Birch & Blackthorn. Each ward has 2 ST1-2 level junior doctors with an ST3+ higher trainee staffing it daily in line with the RCP Safe Medical Staffing Guidelines.
