We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Procurement Manager to join our Finance Department at the University of Northampton (UON). The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Finance and Planning to provide the strategic direction for University procurement whilst achieving best value for money in procurement, encouraging sustainable procurement and enabling social enterprise engagement in the procurement process where applicable. They will also be responsible for achieving process efficiencies and cost reduction across the University, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, building relationships, negotiating favourable contract terms and providing expert advice on procurement regulations.

You will be responsible for the management a team of three including a Buyer & Procurement Compliance Officer and two Purchase to Pay Assistants.

Whilst remote working is available for this post the number of days per week will vary during each semester depending on the requirements of the post, this will be discussed in more detail at interview.

About you

You must have detailed knowledge of public sector procurement regulations with demonstrable experience of successfully managing a large value tender exercise. The successful candidate must have excellent communication, negotiation and persuasion skills. You must have proven ability to plan and implement procurement initiatives to generate significant savings with the ability to make independent decisions to support the University’s procurement strategy.

The Finance & Planning team is responsible for the provision of wide range of financial services across the University, including procurement, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury and cash management, the management of income, accounts payable and credit control services. The Finance and Planning team strive to support the University’s strategic objectives by ensuring financial stability and providing accurate and timely financial information to internal and external stakeholders. The Procurement team are responsible for managing the acquisition of goods and services across the University, supporting its strategic objectives and operational requirements.
