Job Description:

We are looking for a friendly and motivatedFood Service Assistant to join our team at HMRC Belfast. You’ll play a key role in delivering excellent customer service through the preparation, presentation, and service of food and beverages. From creating barista-style drinks to supporting food service and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment, you’ll help ensure every customer has a great experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve food and beverages to a high standard, ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Provide advice and guidance on menu choices, including awareness of dietary requirements (e.g., allergies to nuts, dairy, or wheat).

  • Prepare and serve barista-style beverages.

  • Operate tills and handle cash transactions accurately.

  • Replenish stock, food, and equipment during service to avoid interruptions.

  • Maintain cleanliness across kitchen, café, dining, and service areas, following cleaning schedules and safety standards.

  • Follow health and safety, food safety, and hygiene practices at all times.

  • Support stock control, including deliveries, storage, and rotation (FIFO).

  • Assist with pot wash, utensils, crockery, and general cleaning tasks.

  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly.

  • Work flexibly to cover holidays and sickness when required.

  • Contribute ideas in team meetings to improve service and enhance the customer experience.

What You’ll Need:

  • Previous experience in catering, hospitality, or food service is desirable.

  • Strong customer service skills with a positive, can-do attitude.

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards.

  • Good communication skills and a team-focused approach.

  • High levels of personal hygiene and smart appearance.

  • Understanding of health & safety, food safety, and cleaning procedures.

  • Flexibility to work additional hours when needed.
