Summary

The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.

The Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit (PRAU), part of the Home Office Analysis & Insight directorate, provides reporting and analysis of performance for the Migration & Borders Mission and associated operational capabilities. We support Ministers, the Executive Committee, Policy and Operational leads, and other analytical functions with the management information (MI) they need. We also produce data for publication and other forms of external release. The Unit advises and supports others in the Department on making the best use of performance information and leads the transformation of MI systems and capabilities. PRAU is geographically spread across Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, and Croydon.

As a Senior Power BI Specialist in the Hub, you will play a key role in enabling high-quality Power BI reporting across the Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit (PRAU) and the wider Home Office. The Hub acts as a centralised centre of excellence, providing expert guidance, tools, and standards to support consistent and impactful reporting.

You will work closely with analysts and stakeholders to understand reporting needs and help build effective Power BI solutions. You will empower others, offering technical advice, coaching, and support in applying Power BI features such as dataflows, semantic models, and accessibility standards.

Your responsibilities will include helping colleagues manage data ingestion, transformation, and modelling within Power BI, ensuring outputs align with strategic goals.

You’ll also see opportunities for innovation, promote the adoption of new Power BI capabilities, and maintain a consistent approach to visualisation across the organisation.

This role suits someone passionate about Power BI and committed to building capability across teams.

  • Support colleagues in managing and preparing data within Power BI for analysis and visualisation.
  • Build Power BI capability across PRAU and the wider Home Office through training and knowledge sharing.
  • Effective line management responsibilities.

Working pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days per week due to business requirements.

Travel

Travel to other listed hub locations (Croydon, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield) on an approximately quarterly basis will be required (subject to business requirements).
