What skills and experience we're looking for
Catherine Junior School is looking for an Assistant Headteacher to lead on English and manage the UKS2 team. This is a new post created as part of an expansion of our leadership team.
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to manage our Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6) and spearhead the development of English across the whole school. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate leader who is committed to raising standards and delivering high-quality teaching and learning in a large and diverse junior school.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the UKS2 phase team, supporting and developing teaching and learning for Years 5 and 6
• Take whole-school responsibility for leading English, ensuring a consistent, ambitious curriculum
• Support the Headteacher, Deputy Headteachers, and fellow Assistant Headteachers in:
• Communicating the school’s vision and strategic leadership
• Day-to-day management of the school
• Formulating and implementing the school’s aims, objectives, and policies
• Managing staff and resources effectively
• Monitoring and evaluating progress towards school goals
• Model outstanding classroom practice as a class-based leader, supported by leadership release time (0.3 FTE)
• Work collaboratively with the leadership team to maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning throughout the school
Desirable Qualities
• A passionate advocate for pupil progress and wellbeing
• Skilled in building effective professional relationships across all levels of the school community
• Innovative thinker with a proactive approach to school improvement and change management
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A strong track record of teaching year 6 is desirable but not essential
