Principal Electrical Design Engineer role:
Develop design layouts that are cost-effective, comply with specifications, and can be constructed and commissioned efficiently. Cost-effectiveness should consider all aspects, including design time, materials, erection, and any impact on other disciplines.
Apply standard practices wherever feasible to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Maintain competitiveness in all design and departmental activities.
Provide accurate estimates and constructive feedback to the Proposals Department.
Adhere to established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department.
Contribute to the creation and improvement of departmental procedures and processes.
Regularly monitor and review procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
Prepare, update, and oversee procedures to support smooth departmental operations.
Maintain comprehensive files and records throughout the lifecycle of contracts.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by prioritising customer needs in all processes.
Foster a culture were satisfying the customer—whether end users or internal departments—is central to achieving objectives.
Maintain and regularly update a personal development plan.
Assist in supervising, mentoring, and developing departmental staff.
Support the maintenance of a safe working environment for all personnel.
Minimize waste across all departmental activities and promote sustainable practices.
Ensure all designs address environmental considerations.
Fully integrate health and safety requirements into all design work.
Principal Electrical Design Engineer requirements:
Strong understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
Proven experience in managing staff in the design of water and sewage treatment plant systems.
Full membership of a recognised professional institution.
Chartered Engineer status.
Preferable: Relevant engineering degree in a related discipline.
Minimum: Relevant engineering HND with extensive practical experience.
Ability to rationalise designs and produce cost-effective, efficient plant layouts.
Broad knowledge of water treatment, including mechanical, process, and electrical engineering, as well as project management.
Flexible and analytical, able to assimilate and interpret large volumes of diverse technical data.
Strong presentation skills, able to communicate technical proposals clearly, confidently, and persuasively.
Proficient in computer applications relevant to engineering.
Valid driving licence.
