Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s youth housing charity, supporting young people aged 16–25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide shelter, support, and life skills to help young people become independent. The Role

Reporting to the HR Lead, this new role has been created as we continue to grow our HR department and strengthen the support we provide to our incredible team. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make the role your own and have a real impact across the organisation.

We’re looking for a confident and compassionate HR Advisor, with a strong focus on Employee Relations (ER). You’ll be the go-to expert for line managers, providing coaching, guidance, and hands-on support with cases such as grievances, disciplinaries, investigations, and appeals.

You’ll also play a key role in updating and communicating HR policies, ensuring best practice is embedded across the organisation. Alongside your ER responsibilities, you’ll support a range of HR activities, from recruitment and onboarding to employee engagement, wellbeing, learning and development, and HR administration.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead on ER casework including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, and appeals. - You should have hands-on experience managing a range of employee relations cases in line with UK employment law and best practice.

- Coach and support line managers to handle people matters confidently and fairly. - Strong influencing skills are essential, along with the ability to deliver training and provide clear, practical guidance to build managers’ confidence.

- Ensure HR policies are up to date, legally compliant, and clearly communicated. - You’ll need a solid knowledge of employment law and the ability to translate policy into clear, accessible guidance for staff and managers.

- Deliver training and guidance to managers on best practice in people management. - Experience in designing and delivering engaging training sessions that support managers in their roles is required.

- Carry out onboarding and inductions for new starters. - You should be confident in delivering a welcoming and professional introduction to the organisation, ensuring a smooth transition for new employees.

- Support recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring a positive candidate experience. - Strong organisational skills and experience managing recruitment campaigns end-to-end will help you succeed in this area.

- Contribute to employee engagement, wellbeing, and learning & development initiatives. - A proactive and creative approach will be important in helping us develop and support initiatives that make a positive difference for staff.

- Maintain accurate HR records and support general HR administration.- Attention to detail and strong IT skills are essential to ensure compliance and the accuracy of our records.

Person Specification
Knowledge and experience

- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an ER-focused HR role, ideally within the Charity sector. CIPD Level 5 would be an advantage.

- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.

- Experience of updating and implementing HR policies and procedures.

- Confident in managing sensitive and complex ER cases.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to coach and influence managers at all levels.

- Understanding of safeguarding principles and safer recruitment practices.

- Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.

- Confident use of HR technology.

- Charity sector experience is desirable.
