Summary


The ultrasound department at The Great Western Hospital are seeking kind, compassionate and enthusiastic people to join our team of friendly and hard-working sonographers. A generous recruitment and retention bonus of £10k is available for new personnel joining us.

We are a team of 12 sonographers that work cohesively and closely with our radiologists, nurses, clinical support workers and fellow allied health professionals. Together we focus on the four main pillars of the Great Western Hospital; Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect.

We are seeking sonographers or appropriately trained professionals who have good experience in any of the following fields of ultrasound:

- Vascular

- Obstetrics

- General Medical and small parts

- Gynaecology

- Neck

- Musculo-skeletal

- Interventional

To perform ultrasound scans including highly specialist techniques where indicated.

Caring for patients during examinations, respecting the rights of privacy and confidentiality, maintaining a high quality service to patients and clinicians.

To independently assess each patient and adapt scanning technique according to the needs of the patient.

To use discretion and experience to work outside of departmental standards when clinically needed.

To help with the vetting of ultrasound requests from a variety of referrers.

To write formal reports in a concise and professional manner, in accordance with local protocol

To discuss ultrasound findings with other practitioners and clinicians where indicated

To manage their own workload and help others when possible.

To be involved in audit, quality assurance and clinical governance where needed.

To assist in the support and training of student sonographers.

To be responsible for continual CPD, training and attend courses as needed.

To contribute to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the area in which you are working, liaising with clinicians and other staff within the trust and GP practices.

To participate in out of hours rota, working unsociable hours and weekends where required

A generous recruitment and retention bonus of £10k is available for new personnel joining us.

Recruitment and retention premium will be paid in two instalments: £5,000 in the first month of employment and a further £5,000 on the anniversary of the start date. Should the individual receive the recruitment premium and leave within the first four years of joining the Trust , there will be a requirement to pay back all or part of the payments depending on time served. For clarity on the repayment values, the day prior to the anniversary of start date will be the end of each year period, with the anniversary itself being the start of the new year period as defined below: 0-1 Year £5,000 instalment payback 1-2 Years – £2,500 instalment payback 2-3 Years - £1000 instalment payback.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality ultrasound service.



Be responsible for own workload and effective throughput of patients. The workload may be unpredictable.



To provide high standards of patient care in a safe, clean and tidy working environment, observing all Trust and departmental policies and to maintain professional and personal standards.



Prioritise requests using expert clinical knowledge so that patient appointments can be made within an appropriate time scale.



To comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
