Summary

• An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join our friendly haemato-oncology ward at St Georges Hospital, on a full-time Fixed term basis.
• This ward cares for patients with a variety of haematological disorders/Oncological conditions.
• The department works with a team of specialist consultants and nurses who collectively provide a comprehensive service covering diagnosis, treatment, palliative care, and end of life care.
• The haematology-oncology department is comprised of Gordon Smith Ward, Ruth Myles Ward and Trevor Howell Ward.
• There is a haematology day care unit attached to Ruth Myles Ward and a chemotherapy suite attached to Trevor Howell Ward.
• We also have CNS’s associated with blood cancers, solid tumours and bleeding disorders as well having a research team conducting trials.
• We strive to deliver the highest quality of care to all patient, always striving to put the patients first.
• The successful applicant should have a recognised chemotherapy qualification, with 2 years post qualification experience including a minimum of 1 years’ experience in cancer care.
• The applicant must have strong leadership qualities and organisational skills, and be motivated to support the senior sister and act as a role model for junior members of the team.
• We are seeking an applicant who will be able to coordinate the ward, working under their own initiative and prioritising their workload to provide safe nursing care and who wishes to further develop their management skills through audits and management of a small team of staff.
• You will need to have the ability to plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift.
• To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
• To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift confidently.
