Summary

This is a great time to join the authority as we have ambitious targets to meet and to achieve everything we have promised to our residents, we need people who are ready to deliver the very best for our communities.

We’re seeking a hands-on, forward-thinking leader with experience in waste management. The Waste Service Team is crucial in delivering high-quality, sustainable waste management solutions across our two Councils. We are committed to enhancing recycling rates, reducing waste, and contributing to our net-zero carbon targets, while ensuring residents and businesses receive an exceptional and good value service.

As the Head of Service, you will drive environmental sustainability, enhance operational efficiency, develop a more commercial approach across our team and oversee strategic initiatives, including policy development, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of our waste strategy.

The role will be responsible for both our in-house service for South Hams Council based across two operational depots and oversee the Waste Contract for West Devon Council provided by an external contractor. You’ll need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, confidence in managing contracts and budgets, and a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders and partner organisations.
