Summary

Night Care Assistant for Autistic Young Person with Complex Medical Needs

Pay: From £17.65 per hour

About the Role

The Parador Group operates across England, providing specialist care services to NHS-funded clients in their own homes. Our Group company, Harland Services, is seeking an exceptional Part-Time Night Care Assistant to join our team supporting a young autistic person with complex medical needs in Ilkeston.

Please note: No visa sponsorship available for this role.

About Our Client
We are looking for someone special to support an autistic young person who has a tracheostomy, requires overnight ventilation, and has a gastrostomy. He is intelligent, has a great sense of humour, loves sarcasm (the fun kind!), and enjoys talking about his interests including wrestling, gaming, music, and dancing.

This role requires someone who truly understands that autism isn't something to "manage" but a different way of experiencing the world that requires genuine understanding, patience, and respect.

Essential Medical Experience Required

• Complex care experience including tracheostomy management, ventilation support, and gastrostomy care
• Experience with suction procedures and medical equipment monitoring
• Medication administration experience
• Nebuliser therapy experience

What Makes Someone Right for This Role

Understanding Autism & Neurodivergence:

• Previous hands-on experience supporting autistic individuals (not just qualifications)
• Understanding that autistic people need advance notice of changes and cannot be rushed
• Ability to recognise subtle non-verbal cues, particularly around pain or discomfort
• Appreciation that everyone's autism is different and there's always more to learn
• Growth mindset - we don't want someone who thinks they "know it all" about autism

Personal Qualities We're Looking For:
• Excellent English communication skills - you'll be engaging in conversations about his interests
• Genuine sense of humour and ability to understand and engage with sarcasm appropriately
• Patient, calm approach who can work at the client's pace without rushing
• Observant and attentive to subtle changes in behaviour or wellbeing
• Respectful of routines and the client's specific ways of doing things

Key Responsibilities

Weeknight Routine (Monday-Friday):
• Monitor client overnight while sleeping (10pm-8am)
• Equipment checks and suction as needed
• Wake client at 6:45am for college preparation
• Morning care routine, medications, and nebulisers
• Supportive conversation during morning computer time
• Ensure client is ready by 8:00am
Weekend Routine:
• Later bedtime routine (midnight) including pre-bed medications and nebuliser
• Overnight monitoring
• Morning care if client wakes before 8am handover
Practical Requirements
• Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
• Comfortable with a large, friendly dog and two smaller dogs
• Flexibility for occasional day shifts to cover leave
• Full availability for night shifts (10pm-8am)
• Understanding this role involves supporting a neurodivergent family - sensitivity to family dynamics essential
What We Offer
• Competitive hourly rate from £17.65
• Free parking
• The opportunity to make a real difference to a young person's life
• Supportive family environment
• Ongoing learning about autism and complex care

Family Environment
Please note: This is a neurodivergent household with three children on the autism spectrum. The successful candidate will need to be sensitive to family dynamics, particularly as one sibling finds new people very challenging. We're looking for someone who sees neurodivergence as a natural variation of human experience, not something to be "fixed”.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of neurodivergence or those who have experience working in neurodivergent-affirming environments, as we believe diverse perspectives strengthen our care team.

Job Type: Part-time
Work Location: Client's home in Ilkeston

If you're someone who believes that the right support can help autistic people thrive as their authentic selves, and you have the medical skills and personal qualities we've described, we'd love to hear from you.
