This is an exciting community-based post,based across City and Hackney Specialist CAMHS, Neurodevelopmental team andWell-being and Mental Health in Schools Service(WAMHS).
Thepost-holder will have four days in Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT), a Tier 3 Specialist CAMHS. NDT provides assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. ADHD and ASD) for young people without moderate-severe intellectual disability, and intervention where there is a co-existing mental health presentation.
The post holder will provide psychological interventions to individuals, groups, parents and families in addition to working with professional systems and communities to support the psychological wellbeing of these children and young people.
The post holder will work with people who use our services to develop a shared understanding of the complex issues the person is facing, how they cope, and the impact this has on their mental, physical health and well-being, and those around them through psychological assessment and formulation, that draws upon key psychological theories and evidence. In collaboration with service users they will devise appropriate care plans that enable a young person to make progress towards their agreed goals.
Service users seen by the post holder will include those who have experienced high levels of distress. Some service users may present with a significant level of risk to both themselves and sometimes to other people, under supervision, the post-holder will be involved in assessing and monitoring risk, including completion of risk assessments and safety plans. Assessments and interventions will be delivered in a range of settings, predominantly CAMHS clinics, but may also include educational and community setting, and may be in person, by telephone or on a digital platform.

The postholder would be expected to work with experts-by-experience, local communities, Community, Voluntary and Social Enterprises, to co-produce and co-develop services. The post holder will be involved in partnership working, liaising with various stakeholders in the system, e.g. GPs, primary and secondary care mental health services, schools and colleges and the 3rdsector providers. The post holder will also be involved in raising the awareness of the complexity of the health and social challenges people with neurodiversity face and the impact this has on mental health and well-being and vice versa.
The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.
For one day a week the post-holder will be based in the Well-being and Mental Health in Schools Service (WAMHS). WAMHS has a particular focus on whole school approaches to mental health and well-being through the provision of staff training, reflective practice. This will likely be a day a week in a secondary school in City & Hackney. This role aims to develop and sustain closer working links between CAMHS and education by providing training, consultation and support, signposting and liaison, especially regarding neurodevelopmental conditions. It also involves working closely with practitioners in the Mental Health in Schools Team.
WAMHS is part of an exciting programme funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community.WAMHS has a particular focus on whole school approaches to mental health and well-being through the provision of staff training, reflective practice and consultation.
