Job Information.
On behalf of both Starfish Recovery Cafe, MELD is looking to employ a worker to support the running and development of the cafe. The Starfish Café operates on a Wednesday in Musselburgh.
As a Recovery Café Worker you will be involved on a weekly basis in the running of the Recovery Café. Your main tasks will be purchasing and preparing ingredients to cook basic homely dishes including soup and sandwiches. You will also be involved with the logging and banking of takings and to oversee the physical set up and tidy up of the café area.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Tasks -
• Creating Menu, Prepping and cooking dishes based on this
• Shop locally for needed items
• Make sure the café takings are deposited promptly
• Make sure the receipts administration is done
• Assist volunteers to keep the daily statistics up to date e.g., keep track of volunteer hours and attendance at café
• Help with the physical set up of the café
• Help with the physical tidy up of the café
• Communicate information with volunteers
• Attend regular Board Meetings
• Help keep the café a safe place for all those who wish to attend.
• Assist with the practical requirements of other planned activities.
• Have awareness of Health and Safety Standards
Decisions and Judgment
• Ability to recognise when you need assistance in the role and bring this to the attention of Board / MELD
• Prioritise tasks due to unplanned changes as they arise
Management of workload and time
• You will need to be able to work unsupervised at times and exercise initiative when providing support to the café
• Your time will be divided into ensuring the café is running smoothly and food preparation.
Most challenging part of the job
• You may be exposed to having to support (along with another staff member / volunteer) individuals if they attend under the influence.
• You may be required to direct individuals who come to the café with challenges to support services.
• You will have to develop and maintain good working relationships with the volunteers, other staff members and board members
Additional Tasks
• Ensure conduct is within the guidelines presented in MELD policies and procedures
• Ensure service delivery is within Starfish policies and procedures
• Engage in regular support and supervision with Line Manager
• Attend meetings including team, when required
