Summary

Job Description

As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, makes up one of the five services within Glasgow City Council and is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across the authority’s nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors. The successful candidate will be part of our Education Directorate Team and have the opportunity to contribute to service objectives. As Head of Inclusion, you will promote inclusive practice and education of the highest quality to support our schools and nurseries meet the needs of children and young people with additional support needs. You will also be responsible for leading strategies designed to improve inclusion, together with the strategic management and forward policy for equalities within Education Services. You will be responsible for the management of a range of services, including the Inclusion Team, Psychological Services, Glasgow Virtual School and Additional Support for Learning Schools. You must be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of Education Services, have a proven track record of leading and managing at a senior level within an education environment, together with a strong understanding of multi-agency working and the challenges facing our schools. To succeed in this role you must bring leadership, energy, and vision, as well as strong stakeholder management. You will be a highly skilled communicator who can develop and maintain effective working relationships, resolve complex situations, and adopt a solution focussed approach. You will have the ability to inspire others, be forward thinking and thrive in a challenging and demanding environment. Crucially, you must have a passion for ensuring the children and young people of Glasgow receive a consistently high quality education which, will provide them with the necessary skills for learning, life, and work. You should be educated to, at least, degree level in a relevant discipline and eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment along with eligibility for registration with GTCS, SSSC. Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 this post is politically restricted. Please note that interviews for the position will take place on Monday 6 October 2025
