We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Mobile Library Driver/Library Assistant to join our team. The post holder will deliver a friendly and efficient mobile library service to schools and communities throughout Orkney as well as deliver library services within Orkney Library and Archive.
Based on the Mobile Library van, as well as in Orkney Library and Archive, the Mobile Library Driver/Library Assistant post will be for 21 hours per week. Your days of working will normally be three days per week across Monday to Friday. The days will vary week to week, to work in with the mobile library timetable which operates on an 8-weekly cycle. The position will include some early morning starts and late evening finishes to fit in with ferry timetables.
Primary duties for this position include driving the Mobile Library van on mainland Orkney, as well as all islands with ro-ro facilities, ensuring vehicle maintenance is up-to date in conjunction with Fleet Services, providing library services to housebound readers in rural areas, promoting the mobile library service to the public, issuing and discharging library materials, registering new members, stock circulation and handling customer requests.
You will have good computer skills, with the ability to support library customers with MS Office and other IT applications.
While this post includes driving, it is also an active role, carrying books, pushing trolleys, lifting boxes and being on your feet for long periods of time.
Applicants must hold a full, current driving licence with Category C1 specified. Applicants must also hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence or are required to complete the relevant training at the first available opportunity after appointment.
