Summary

Job Title: Community Site & Animal Care Worker
Hours

Monday: Half day (approx. 9am – 1pm, flexible)

Thursday: 9am – 5pm

Friday: 9am – 5pm

Weekends: Some Saturdays/Sundays 2pm – 5pm; one Saturday per month 9am – 5pm

Purpose of the Role

To support the smooth running of Eat Sleep Ride’s site by caring for animals, maintaining grounds and facilities, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for the community. This is a hands-on, practical role that combines animal care, gardening, maintenance, and working alongside people.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care

Daily care of 3 Chinese Silkie chickens (feeding, cleaning, welfare checks).

Support basic horse care (field checks, water, mucking out, feed prep).

Monitor animal wellbeing and report any concerns promptly.

Grounds & Garden

Maintain vegetable patch: sowing seeds, weeding, watering, and harvesting.

Support wider garden care (paths, sensory spaces, planting, upkeep).

General upkeep of outdoor areas to ensure safety and accessibility.

Maintenance

Carry out minor repairs and maintenance (e.g., fencing, gates, tools).

Operate quad bike for field and site tasks.

Support seasonal site preparation (storm checks, winter prep, summer set-up).

Community & Teamwork

Work alongside staff, volunteers, and community members in a supportive way.

Help create a welcoming and safe environment for visitors and young people.

Share skills and encourage participation in gardening and animal care.

Skills & Qualities Required

Practical experience with gardening, grounds, or maintenance.

Confidence around small animals and horses (training can be provided).

Ability to use tools safely and carry out basic repairs.

Reliable, flexible, and able to work outdoors in all weather.

Friendly, approachable, and comfortable working with community members.

Desirable

Experience in animal care, farming, or equine work.

First Aid or Health & Safety awareness.

Interest in community, wellbeing, or nature-based projects.
