Overview of the job

An exciting new role is available in Gloucester PDU, working in a multi-disciplinary team as part of an Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS).

The role is 0.5FTE and can be worked part time or alongside an existing PSO role

Probation Service Officer - IIRMS PSO

An exciting opportunity has been developed to join Gloucester’s Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway as a PSO in the Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS). IIRMS operate across the SW region offering psychosocial, psychoeducational, and formal psychological interventions to a small caseload of complex, high risk and hard to reach individuals who are at particular risk of failure in the community through disengagement and further serious offending.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside probation and health colleagues to improve outcomes for people with complex needs. As a PSO in a multi-disciplinary team, a flexible and collaborative approach is required, with a willingness to travel across the Probation Delivery Unit. Duties may include, engagement and induction work, including prison visits; the co-delivery of groupwork; offering individuals a range of practical, psychological and social inclusion support such as skills practice, interventions and accompanying them to relevant external appointments (GP registration, benefits assessments, pursuit of employment, hobbies, and sports activities etc).

You will be part of a team with a diverse skillset which may include probation officers, forensic and clinical psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, health care support workers and occupational therapists.

You will be an important element of the interface between health and probation. You will support your probation colleagues to maintain a good understanding of and engagement with the IIRMS service. This may include delivering briefings and training alongside IIRMS colleagues. You will also play a key role in the operating of the Hub, an innovative social inclusion space for IIRMS cases. As an integral part of the MDT, you will bring probation knowledge and expertise to the service.

The role requires a high degree of motivation and commitment to a relational, compassionate, and professional approach with a strong ethos for team collaboration.

You will be a member of the wider SW OPD Pathway network. We are committed to learning and development, and you will be provided with appropriate training, regular support and supervision.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
• Contributing to the delivery of Risk Management Plans and report significant changes relating to risk of harm and/or reoffending or any non-compliance within agreed enforcement procedures
• Proactively support the strategic and operational objectives of the IIRMS through engagement with team and clinical meetings
• Using HMPPS IT systems to produce, update and maintain records and other documentation within expected timescales
• Ensuring effective referrals to services through timely communication with offender management staff, interventions staff, service providers and external agencies to review progress and manage associated risks
• Taking a primary role in engagement and social inclusion activities
• Taking a primary role in the operating of the Hub initiatives
• Delivering and co-lead groups with OPD Pathway colleagues
• Supporting the maintenance and processing of OPD data to ensure effective and timely delivery of services
• Demonstrating pro-social modelling skills by consistently reinforcing pro-social behaviour and attitudes and challenging anti-social behaviour and attitudes
• Working within the aims, values and relevant policies of the PS and Health partners
• A commitment to continuous professional development in accordance with the relational approach of the OPD Pathway
• Representing the Probation Service and OPD Pathway with professionalism when interacting with all stakeholders

We welcome applications from a diversity of working backgrounds and from experienced PSOs. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will rotate out of the role following a period of 3 – 5 years.
