• Qualified teacher status
• Degree level qualification
• Evidence of the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination
• Evidence of continuing and recent professional development relevant to the post.
Desirable
• Relevant postgraduate professional qualification
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
• At least 12 months experience working as a school SENCO
• Successful teaching and curriculum experience in primary/secondary education
• Experience of delivery, monitoring and evaluation of phonics
• Knowledge and understanding of the statutory responsibilities regarding the SEN Code of Practice
• Demonstrable experience of improving pupil outcomes
• Experience of working in collaboration other educational bodies and the wider community to develop positive relationships
• Experience of effective management and deployment of people and other resources
• Knowledge and commitment of Keeping Children Safe in Education.
• Ability to use data and ICT effectively to assess performance and raise achievement
• Experience of working with children with significant barriers to learning
Desirable
• Experience in making reasonable adjustments and access arrangements for pupils with SEND.
