About us
Salford City Council's Strengthening Families program is an award winning innovative , intensive, long-term early help service for:

  • vulnerable first time parents who are at risk of having their first child removed through court proceedings
  • or have had at least one child removed from their care through court proceedings and present as pregnant again .

    The program aims to increase the number of parents and babies who can stay together and reduce recurrent care proceedings

    About the Role

    The role of the Specialist Family Practitioner is multifaceted and focuses on providing intensive support to families facing complex challenges, often involving babies who are at risk of being removed from parents care. This role is vital in helping parents develop the skills and confidence to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their babies and children.

    The programme's innovative model offers comprehensive, long-term support to parents, encompassing antenatal care and assistance throughout a child's crucial first five years.

    The program is built upon the understanding that individuals have the capacity for change, focusing on positive parenting practices and the establishment of a secure and nurturing setting for children

    About you

    The Specialist Family Practitioner role, requires a Level 4 or equivalent qualification in child development, health, or social care. Candidates need prior experience supporting children and families facing trauma, poor mental health, domestic abuse or substance misuse issues.

    Key skills include developing risk assessments and safety plans, monitoring progress, and demonstrating a strong understanding of early years and relevant legislation, coupled with a commitment to safeguarding. The successful candidate will employ a strengths-based, relational approach and will be expected to maintain comprehensive records. They must also model organizational values, embrace continuous development, reflect on practice, and actively participate in supervision.

    Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
