About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive individual to join a dynamic science department in a prominent school in Sheffield. The role is full-time, starting as soon as possible, and will be integral to the delivery of high-quality biology education to students across various age groups, including a thriving sixth-form. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive technical support, ensuring that all practical lessons and demonstrations run smoothly and safely. Requirements
- A relevant qualification in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry).
- Previous experience working in a school or college laboratory.
- A clear and current Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Required Skills
- A strong understanding of biology and laboratory procedures.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of a range of laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols within a laboratory setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing experiments and setting up apparatus for biology lessons, from GCSE to A-Level.
- Maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment, ensuring a safe and hygienic working environment.
- Managing the storage and disposal of chemicals and biological waste according to safety regulations (e.g., CLEAPSS guidelines).
- Assisting teaching staff with practical demonstrations and student investigations.
- Preparing stock solutions and other commonly used materials.
- Ordering and managing departmental stock, including chemicals, equipment, and living organisms.
- Conducting safety checks on all laboratory equipment and reporting any faults.
- Assisting in the care and maintenance of plants and animals within the department's care.
- Providing reprographic support for the department, such as duplicating worksheets and notes.
- Helping to maintain a detailed inventory of all departmental resources and expenditure.
