JOB DESCRIPTION: GENERAL KITCHEN ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Cook and Registered Care Home Manager
HOURS: 14 hours a week, this is on a Rota Basis to include Weekends.
(More hours could be available, due to Annual Leave and other
Cover required)
OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB:
To carry out basic food preparation, making sure that the Cook has everything needed and be responsible for cleaning the kitchen. You would follow strict hygiene, health and safety rules.
Unloading deliveries from Suppliers
Making sure you keep the storeroom, and refrigerators etc., clean and tidy.
Using and Washing kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls.
Carry out task quickly and competently, follow instruction and use your initiative.
Step up as Cook, as and when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Organisation:
• Participate in Staff meetings and in Staff Training where applicable.
Report and record in the appropriate manner any information considered to be important to the Cook and Home Manager.
Adhere to Parklands Care Home policies and procedures
Any other duties that the post holder may reasonably be expected to perform.
Functional:
Ensure that a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the Kitchen, to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Environmental Health Agencies.
To conform to the Care Home’s Food Hygiene procedures.
Ensure all equipment used is well maintained, in good working order and to log any defects and report to the Cook and Home Manager.
To prepare, cook and present well-balanced meals and beverages to the highest quality, incorporating, cultural and dietary needs as required by the Residents and Staff of the Care Home.
Work closely with the Cook regarding Menus that reflect choice and preferences.
Purchase supplies in accordance with the planned menu, whilst monitoring and controlling the Service from Suppliers. (Cook)
Ensure all stock ordered is consistent with planned menus that reflect choice and preference. (Cook)
Work closely with the Home Manager, by maintaining the Catering Budget. (Cook)
Work closely with the Cook and Home Manager to ensure Catering Services are provided to the appropriate standards to Residents.
Maintain and check First Aid equipment within the Kitchen.
Maintain an accurate stock control. (Cook)
Carry out good food Management, temperature controls an HACCP documentation according to current Food Hygiene regulations.
Be responsible for maintaining an annual Catering Budget within set parameters. (Cook)

Food Hygiene Certified – Level 1 as a minimum. Willing to work towards Food Hygiene Certified – Level 2 qualification
First Aid Certified.
NVQ Level 1/2 in Food Preparation/Catering
Understanding and commitment to Equal Opportunities
