Summary
Allstaff Engineering Division are delighted to bring to the market the role of Quality Control Inspector for a well established manufacturing company based in Renfrew. The main purpose of the role is to ensure that goods comply with engineering drawings and specifications. This is for a fixed term of six months.
Accountabilities
Complete visual & dimensional inspection of components to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
Verify functional tests to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
Complete calibration of measuring & inspection devices in line with schedule.
Compile, distribute & file quality control reports to ensure records are maintained in line with Company procedures.
Dimensions
Can be responsible for inspection on individual items that can vary between a few hundred pounds up to several £100K.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
A formal qualification in metrology or being able to demonstrate a good knowledge of metrology.
Experience in the use of precision measuring instruments.
Be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of medium & large fabricated items.
Demonstrate a good understanding of technical drawings.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Desirable
Previous experience in the NDT and visual & DPI inspection of large fabrications.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including the use of spreadsheets and databases.
Complexity and Creativity
On checking an item, if there is a degree of uncertainty regarding a finding, then it will be necessary to use experience and whatever other inspection techniques or methods available to reach a conclusion.
There may be a requirement to check for something which is outside normal experience and testing may be required to develop a suitable inspection method.
If an item is borderline on a very urgent critical project there may be extreme pressure when reaching decision as to compliance with specification.
Judgement and Decisions
In the event of a fabricated or machined component not fitting correctly together, will be expected to be able to measure the items, establish where the problem lies and to offer suggestions on how to remedy the situation.
Contacts
Internal:
Production Supervisors – ongoing daily verbal contact with regard to workload scheduling, inspection status of completed work and advice on rectification work.
Quality Engineers – regular verbal communication on status of inspection on projects, on provision of inspection records and on forthcoming Customer witness points.
Quality Manager – regular verbal communication on all of above plus general queries on metrology and feed-back on Customer specifications
General Manager and Project Managers – regular verbal communication on all of above plus general queries on metrology and feed-back on Customer specifications.
Design Engineers – periodic written or telephone communication advising on general or specific inspection queries.
Role will be based on the shop floor. Regular verbal communication with the shop floor staff on all aspects of checking / inspection of fabrications and assembled products is required.
The role will also involve working closely with the factory supervisor, stores, project managers and engineering.
External:
Customer – Regular direct contact during Customer witness points.
Travel
Will be required to travel up to 20% of their time on a mixture of planned and ad-hoc inspections. Some of the ad-hoc can be at very short notice and could be worldwide.
Some travel will be included, mainly within the UK for third-party inspections. Employees must comply with the company driving policy.
Hours of Work
Monday to Thursday: 7.45am – 4.00pm (30-minute lunch)
Friday: 7.45am – 1.45pm
If overtime is required, it will be paid at time and a half.
Salary: £37,500 – £39,000 per annum depending on experience
