Summary

Are you looking for a new opportunity?

Are you passionate about working with children and young people?

Are you enthusiastic about supporting the development of excellent and inclusive services with young people to enhance their wellbeing, happiness and opportunities?

If so, we want you to join our team!

We're currently seeking a motivated and adaptable individual to join our team as an As and When Youth Support Worker.

Through the Barnardo's Co-op Partnership, we've co-designed and launched 20 community-based services across the UK — with Ely, Cardiff being one of them. As part of the Rise Up service, you'll work directly with young people, facilitating regular spaces and opportunities where young people can come together to:
• Access free food
• Learn to cook
• Make new friends and connect
• Learn new skills
• Access wellbeing workshops

This flexible role involves supporting the delivery of our weekly youth sessions and stepping in as needed to cover staff absence, annual leave, or special events. It's a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and young people aged 10–25.

Our current service includes:

Wellbeing Workshops in local schools (daytime hours) – cover required for annual leave and special events.
Tuesday Community Fridge & Cooking Sessions (3pm–5pm) – regular support needed, including helping to arrange and collect surplus food supplies and maintain relationships with partner organisations.

We're looking for someone who is:

Confident and creative in engaging and working alongside young people aged 10–25.
Skilled in facilitating groupwork sessions.
Able to provide emotional and practical support in line with safeguarding policies.
Flexible with working hours, including some evenings and occasional weekends, to meet the needs of young people.
Able to work in partnership with key community organisations, while keeping young people at the centre of everything we do.

Please note, the main location for this role is the Ely and Caerau area of Cardiff.

For an informal chat about the role, please call or text Jess Hanson, Children's Service Manager, on 07729300857 or email Jessica.hanson@barnardos.org.uk

When completing your application please refer to your skills knowledge and experience in relation to the Person Specification, Job Description and Additional Information document (if applicable). This should be done with an understanding of the context of the service described.

Please note due to the high volume of applications for some posts, this advert might close before the displayed closing date. We recommend that you apply for this role as soon as possible.
