Summary

Acute work *Out of hours on calls will be at Heartlands Hospital covering inpatient admissions including a four bedded paediatric High Dependency Unit, the Paediatric Assessment Unit and paediatric referrals from the emergency department. You will be directly involved in the stabilisation of sick children requiring intensive care transfer. *We provide clinical support and access to HDU and inpatient care for sick and complex children and those requiring long stay admission from the Childrens Assessment Unit at Good Hope Hospital. There is integration and co-operation between consultant and nursing teams across sites with frequent transfer of patients to Heartlands from Good Hope Site * On call frequency will be 1:11. This will require onsite presence between 16:30-21:00 hours on weekdays and 08:30-15:30 hours on Bank Holidays and weekends. *Consultants work a Consultant of the Week pattern covering HDU and inpatient ward as 1st on call or the Paediatric Assessment Unit ambulatory and short stay admissions as 2nd on. The daytime weekday cover will be from 08:30-17:00 *We provide support and medical shared care with general surgical specialties (ENT, general surgery, T&O), mental health admissions and partners in the community. We care for patients with complex and life-limiting conditions as part of a wider multidisciplinary team *Around 3 weeks per year will be 1st on weeks at Heartlands *Around 4 weeks per year 2nd on weeks at Heartlands *2 weeks per year will be spent working on the Childrens Assessment Unit at Good Hope Hospital Monday-Friday as the weekday on call consultant *You will be part of a GP advice and guidance rota for triage of telephone and electronic referrals Respiratory Service *You will work alongside an experienced team of respiratory consultants and MDT to support the Asthma and respiratory workload *Approximately 24 asthma clinics over 42 working weeks *There is a weekly Respiratory MDT meeting you will be expected to attend during your non acute weeks *SPA time can be utilised to gain experience of the respiratory management of neuromuscular conditions, cystic fibrosis and non-invasive ventilation, through attending clinics and specific MDT meetings Non-acute general paediatrics *You will deliver 34 general paediatric clinics over 42 working weeks *Clinics will be delivered from Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Sites Supporting responsibilities *Attend statutory, mandatory and essential training activities *Complete appraisal and revalidation commitments *Maintain CPD in general paediatrics including asthma and respiratory *Participation in teaching, training and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate doctors rotating in paediatrics. *Participation in clinical governance activities including audits, and other supporting activities as directed by the needs of the service. *Respond and engage with complaints or investigations within the trust when requested *Attend and keeping up to date with child safeguarding training as per trust requirements *Maintain life support provider status (EPALS or APLS) as minimum
