Summary

This role is offered as a part time, term time opportunity, great for individuals looking for a flexible, customer facing role that could work around other commitments. We can offer 28 hours per week over 37 weeks per year and the actual salary is £15,444.78 per annum, pro rata to £24,330.

The working hours for this role are Monday to Thursdays 9am to 2:45pm and Fridays 9am to 2pm, for 37 weeks per year.

This opportunity is based at our Woking Adult Learning Centre, with the expectation of supporting at our other centres if required.

About the Team

Surrey Adult Learning is a leading provider of diverse daytime, evening and Saturday courses and learning opportunities for adults which is part of our lifelong learning offer. We offer a wide range of qualification courses, including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), maths and digital skills. Our courses also cater to individuals with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and parents/carers seeking to upskill to support their children. Additionally, we provide courses for personal development in various subjects such as arts and crafts, languages and exercise. Our outreach provision is designed to assist those currently facing life challenges.

About the Role

As the Café Supervisor you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our welcoming café, which serves a range of drinks, food and snacks to our learners and other café users. This role is key in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere as the café acts as the central hub of our Centre. In addition, there may be opportunities for you to work with and supervise volunteers.

Your day-to-day tasks will include managing the operations of the café ensuring a high standard of service is maintained, preparing and serving food and beverages ensuring quality and presentation, overseeing cash handling and banking procedures maintaining accurate records, maintaining a clean and safe environment adhering to health and safety regulations, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all café users and providing guidance and supervision to volunteers, when applicable.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

Strong customer service background.

  • Proven experience serving and preparing food for the public.
  • Some knowledge of cash handling and banking procedures.
  • Working knowledge of good health and safety practice in a kitchen environment.
  • Willingness to undertake (or update) Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate, an essential part of the role.
  • Demonstrate a practical and confident approach, as lone working is involved in this role.
  • IT skills and knowledge, for ordering of food/ingredients.
