Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Principal Strategic Planning Officer in the Strategic Planning Team of South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council.

We are embarking upon a new joint local plan for South Hams and West Devon under the new local plan-making system. Our new plan will need to balance a range of potentially competing demands, including delivering homes that are accessible to as many members of our communities as possible, despite being one of the most unaffordable areas of the country. We also need to enable sustainable growth that aligns with UK carbon reduction targets, whilst addressing the short term challenges of our rural economy and the changing role of our High Streets. We are keen to attract an innovative and creative principal planner to help us consider and address these, and other, issues.

As well as being located in the beautiful south west of England, we can offer a supportive a progressive work culture that invests in its staff and promotes professional development.

For an informal discussion or for further details about the role, please contact Phil Baker, Head of Strategic Planning on 01803 861210 or phil.baker@swdevon.gov.uk.
