Summary
Assisting the Anaesthetist and Surgeons as required including assistance with blood transfusions and intra vascular procedures. To carry out routine checks of equipment as per departmental policy. Participation in clinical trials of new equipment and supplies and the evaluation of existing equipment in collaboration with medical and nursing staff. To prepare and label as required and under the supervision of the anaesthetist such anaesthetic agents as may be required, whilst at all times observing the strictest interpretation of safe checking, handling and disposal (of sharps) procedures. To report to the Sister/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager as appropriate, accidents, complaints, defects in drugs, supplies or equipment. To assist in the orientation of new staff within the department. To participate in in-service training programme for other staff as appropriate. To assist other members of the team in preparation and cleaning of operating theatres, e.g. moving apparatus and lights and cleaning up during and after an operation. To attend departmental meetings as required. To comply with the GHA & departmental policies and procedures. Responsible and accountable as a professional for his/her actions and the outcomes of those actions. May be required to carry out other job related instructions as requested by the Clinical Nurse Manager/Sister/Charge Nurse.
