An exciting opportunity has arisen to take up a new role leading Highland Council's Emergency Planning, Occupational Health and Health and Safety functions. Bringing together this newly-formed team, the post-holder will have responsibility for working with services, partners and communities to ensure people are kept safe and well in both emergency scenarios and the day to day work of the Council.
Tasks include:
- Overseeing business continuity and health and safety in the Council
- Managing occupational health provision
- Proactively supporting the wellbeing and health of our colleagues
- Planning and testing responses to emergencies and major events
- Supporting communities to be more resilient
Managing a team of professionals, the Service Lead for Safety, Health and Emergency Planning (SHEP) will work with a huge range of services and partners across the Highlands, from ensuring our buildings and equipment is safely maintained to offering mental health support, and from responding to severe weather to advising on safety for festivals and events. This varied role would suit someone with previous relevant professional and managerial experience who is keen to raise the profile of these key services and help the Council to become sector-leading in the field.

Requirements
A relevant degree or professional qualification relating to the delivery of Occupational Health, or Health and Safety, or Emergency Planning, and evidence of continuing professional development.
Significant experience of leadership and management responsibilities in a relevant Service.
Professional knowledge of the legislation, policy and good practice guidance affecting Safety, Health and Emergency Planning services.
The post holder must be prepared to work flexibly, which may involve outside normal office hours.
