Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
York High School is seeking a resourceful, innovative and passionate Teaching Assistant to work within a new internal provision with individuals and small groups of students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to improve accessibility to mainstream curriculum and inclusion in school.
The internal provision will cater for Key Stage 3 students, offering high quality interventions in a nurturing environment to students with a range of needs. This includes those who require enhanced support to transition to secondary education, make good progress with their learning outcomes (such as reading or numeracy skills), develop their social and emotional skills or improve their wellbeing.
The successful candidate will plan, manage, deliver and audit a range of interventions using assess, plan, do, review cycles. These interventions may target learning or emotional needs and may be delivered individually or to a group of students. There may also be some class support involved. You will also be the key worker for a caseload of students, attending meetings and liaising with parents and staff as necessary. The successful candidate will have high expectations of what students can achieve, and will be naturally empathetic.
You will have experience of successfully delivering interventions to students individually or in small groups, and experience of supporting students with SEND in education. You will be able to describe and measure the impact of these interventions on young people you have worked with. You will possess GCSE English and maths at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, and also hold a Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 2 or above. You will be able to quickly build effective relationships with students, staff, parents and carers in order to support students to become the best that they can be.
We would strongly encourage any prospective candidate to visit the school. Please email Dawn Becton, PA to Principal and Office Manager, at d.becton@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk if you would like to arrange a visit.
