Summary

About the role
The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines that ingest, clean, transform, and organise complex datasets from multiple sources. This role will support Web applications and reporting tools by ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility. The position requires close collaboration with data analysts, software developers, and stakeholders to ensure business requirements are translated into robust data solutions, with deployment primarily on Google Cloud Platform.

  • Shifts: Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • Location: Reading - Hybrid


The must-haves:

  • Proven experience in building and managing data pipelines using cloud-native tools, ideally on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery and data transformation frameworks such as Dataform or DBT is essential.
  • A strong background in SQL (particularly PostgreSQL), ETL/ELT processes, and working with large datasets is required.
  • Experience integrating and preparing data for business intelligence tools like Tableau is also necessary.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices in a data engineering context, version control (e.g., Git), and strong problem-solving skills are vital.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders is also important.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, knowledge of Python or other scripting languages, and familiarity with data governance and security best practices are desirable.
  • Exposure to agile development environments, performance tuning of data queries, and advanced Tableau capabilities (e.g., custom dashboards, calculated fields) would be a strong plus.
