Summary
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Head of Grounds to join a prestigious school in Essex. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a skilled professional to oversee the management, development, and presentation of the school's extensive grounds and outdoor facilities.
As Head of Grounds, you will ensure that playing fields, pitches, gardens, and external areas are maintained to the highest standard. You will lead a team of grounds staff, coordinate schedules, and liaise with school leadership to provide safe, attractive, and functional spaces that support both education and extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities
•
Lead and manage the grounds team, ensuring high standards of work
•
Maintain and prepare playing fields, pitches, and sports facilities to competition standards
•
Oversee the upkeep of gardens, pathways, and external areas
•
Manage equipment, machinery, and resources efficiently and safely
•
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all grounds work
•
Plan and oversee seasonal maintenance schedules and improvement projects
•
Liaise with school leaders, PE staff, and external contractors as required
•
Support the school's events and activities requiring grounds preparation
Qualifications and Experience
•
Previous experience in grounds management, ideally in an educational or sports environment
•
Leadership and team management skills
•
Strong knowledge of grounds maintenance, horticulture, and sports pitch care
•
Practical skills in the safe use and maintenance of grounds machinery
•
Ability to plan, organise, and deliver long-term maintenance programmes
•
Strong communication and organisational skills
•
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
