Summary

About this role

Our Lead Investigators manage multi-disciplinary teams conducting trade remedies investigations. You will plan and deliver all aspects of our investigations, notably:

  • Planning investigation work and organising the case team and internal stakeholders to ensure that investigations are completed to time, quality standards, and budget,
  • Managing relationships with all parties to investigations, ensuring that they are treated professionally, fairly and impartially,
  • Ensuring that investigations are conducted in line with applicable law, policy and procedure, proper case disciplines, and that records are maintained,
  • Setting standards for supporting, reviewing and quality assuring all aspects of the team’s work,
  • Working with colleagues across the TRA to ensure that analysis and data verification activities are conducted to the appropriate professional standards,
  • Making decisions on case management issues to ensure that each investigation is progressed fairly, diligently, and expeditiously, and
  • Ensuring that the team’s decisions are properly taken, founded in the best available evidence, well-reasoned and clearly communicated, including in published documents.
  • Line management of a team ensuring an environment in which they can thrive.

Key Accountabilities

You will be expected to:

  • Manage a case team to deliver all aspects of the case (gathering, verifying and analysing evidence; reaching, testing and reporting conclusions) to time, budget and quality standards,
  • Develop and use your understanding of trade remedies law and practice to guide case conduct,
  • Pull together contributions from all professional disciplines represented in the TRA to ensure that the team’s assessments and conclusions are well founded and that everyone in the team has opportunities to contribute,
  • Manage the case in a way that is fair to all parties and complies with good project / case management practice, for example in planning, evidence capture, record keeping, progress reporting, knowledge and risk management,
  • Make good use of the IT and other tools available to conduct the case efficiently and transparently,
  • Manage the team in line with TRA’s values and leadership behaviours, creating a rewarding and fulfilling environment for people to work,
  • Ensure all parties to the case and internal stakeholders are informed of case progress and developments, including managing the reporting process to the Executive Team and the TRA Board,
  • Manage a small team of investigators, and
  • Engage in other grade appropriate tasking as directed by the organisation, being adaptable to evolving responsibilities of the role.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Well organised, delivery focused and adept at planning and prioritising work,
  • Able to build and sustain positive relationships both inside and outside the organisation, seeking to build consensus and progress work while coping confidently with challenge,
  • Able to lead and manage a team, drawing together contributions from colleagues from a range of professions and grades,
  • Familiar with project management disciplines and their practical application,
  • Familiar with IT systems and software packages, with an aptitude for applying technology to operational needs,
  • Comfortable with detailed analysis of quantitative and financial data and with quality assuring the analytical work of others,
  • An excellent written communicator with excellent collaborative drafting skills – in particular, able to prepare robust, persuasive, impartial documents, including detailed reasoned decisions that take into account the sensitive political and legal environment in which we work,
  • An effective oral communicator, capable of representing the organisation professionally with a range of stakeholders, and
  • Versatile, with an appetite for problem-solving and the ability to turn their hand to a variety of managerial and organisational challenges.
