Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6 hrs per week
Days / Hours: (Proposed shifts: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm)
Days flexible to be discussed at interview
R.O.P: £12.60 - £13.73 per hr

Duties:
Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T) required to provide support and companionship to a young man with a diagnosis of Autism. He lives with his family in the Kilwinning area.

Confidentiality is of utmost importance.

Social Support
You will provide social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring his safety at all times. He has no sense of danger or road safety therefore must be supervised at all times and you must physically fit and able to respond quickly as he can run off if distracted by something he sees. Continuity and consistency are very important to him.

Support required to access the local community including going to the Gym. He also enjoys going to the swimming pool – he can’t swim however enjoys going in the water and applicants must be comfortable to assist with this.

The family are looking for applicants who are friendly, have a cheery personality and are easy going. You must be calm and have the ability to reassure and encourage in a positive way.

He is passionate about cars and watching sport, going to football games and enjoys going to visit football stadiums – it would be beneficial to have similar interests. On occasion, hours may be used for longer shifts to support him to travel further afield to visit stadiums etc.

He also loves music and has an interest in theatre and costumes. It is hoped that over time, his confidence will increase and he may be able to attend Centre Stage in Kilmarnock.

Personal Care
Minimal - would only be prompting to get dressed properly after swimming etc

Experience Required
Experience of working with young adults with Autism is essential. It is preferable that applicants are a driver, with current drivers licence, use of own car and business insurance. Wage rate incorporates travel allowance however mileage costs will be covered if traveling any distance for work related purposes.

The successful applicants will have to undergo a new PVG Disclosure, at the employer’s expense and supply 2 reference contacts prior to appointment.
There is a 6-month probationary period attached to these posts with 1 weeks’ notice within that time if the post does not work out.
