About the Role
We are recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Leicester. The provision supports pupils aged 5-11 who have been excluded or are unable to access mainstream education, with many students having social, emotional and behavioural needs.
The team works with small groups and on a 1:1 basis, focusing on re-engagement, emotional regulation and helping pupils develop positive routines for learning. This is a challenging but incredibly rewarding role for someone who is committed to making a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Use de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies to manage challenging situations
- Support emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-regulation
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to deliver consistent strategies
- Build positive, trusting relationships to help students feel safe and supported
What We're Looking For
- Essential: Experience working with children with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviours in an education setting
- Team Teach training is highly desirable
- A calm, patient and resilient approach, even in high-pressure situations
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust quickly
- Commitment to helping vulnerable pupils re-engage with learning
