Interviews: W/C 6th Oct 2025, and will take place face to face at Greater Manchester Fire Service Headquarters.
An exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking and pro-active health and safety team within Greater Manchester. This position is tasked with working closely and reporting into the Health and Safety Manager across the organisation and ensuring the “Best in Class” health and safety standards are in place. The role is predominantly focused with The Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service (and with some wider scope across GMCA). It is an excellent opportunity for an established, Chartered health and safety professional to continue developing their career.
Your role:
Responsibilities for the Senior Health and Safety Advisor will include:
- Providing expert practical and technical leadership and advice in health, safety, and risk management measures across a multidisciplinary organisation
- Delivering new initiatives across health, safety, and wellbeing and understanding the statutory requirements to any wellbeing-related impacts.
- Assisting with the implementation and development of safety management systems, such as ISO45001
- Investigating serious health and safety related incidents, preparing reports and recommendations on corrective action and ensure compliance
- Contributing and leading on projects covering compliance and best practice across health & safety legislation
About you:
The successful Senior Health and Safety Advisor will have:
- Educated to a minimum Diploma Level 6 or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Health & Safety Practitioner with up-to-date membership and evidence of CPD. ( Or working towards completion of chartered membership).
- Significant experience of providing technical health and safety advice in a practical user-friendly manner to senior colleagues to assist with risk analysis and risk mitigation.
- Being able to manage your own workloads whilst operating in a dynamic environment, delivering multiple tasks, with regularly changing circumstances.
- Experienced in writing and implementing health and safety management systems in multi-functional organisations that are bespoke and relevant to the organisation.
- Experienced in reviewing legislation and advising on its impact across a multi-functional organisation.
- Developing and delivering H&S related training courses in a innovating and user friendly manner.
- Experienced in conducting accident investigations and reviewing accident statistics to identify pro-active interventions.
- Experience of delivering medium sized projects through to completion.
- Willingness and ability to travel across the county as and when required, within a reasonable time to meet the role demands (individuals providing their own vehicle for use will be eligible for casual car user rate.
Desirable
- Holds a recognised train the trainer qualification with a dynamic and engaging approach to training delivery.
- Experienced in managing projects from inception through to completion.
- Coaching qualification
- ISO 45001 Lead or internal auditor qualification
- Experienced in writing and implementing Management Systems in multi-functional organisations.
- Experienced in developing and coaching less experienced safety practitioners, or people embarking on a new profession as a safety practitioner
- Local Government or related experience would be ideal.
