About us
At Serco, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of roadworthiness for our commercial vehicle fleet. We are currently seeking a skilled Workshop Mechanic to join our small team in Derbyshire This role involves repairing, maintaining, and inspecting all Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities, in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency “Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness”.

About you and the role
We’re looking for a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team and play a key part in keeping our fleet safe, and reliable. This is a hands-on role where you’ll use your expertise to carry out inspections, identify and repair faults, and ensure all vehicles meet Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency (DVSA) standards.


Day-to-day, your key responsibilities include:

- Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented.
- Identify vehicle faults and repair as necessary.
- In consultation with the W/Shop Supervisor, ensure all safety inspections are planned at least six months in advance, including, all vehicle statutory obligations.
- Ensure all brake tests are completed as required
- Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs have been completed to verify the vehicle is roadworthy
- Ensure the workshop is kept clean and well organised to ensure workplace safety
- Completing all inspection and repair documentation, either manually or electronically, after any work has been completed on the vehicle
- Work outside of normal working hours when operationally required



Essential skills and experience

- Full industry recognised qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ Level Three in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair)
- Experience of maintaining large fleets
- Cat C Driving Licence
- Experience working on specialist Hydraulic systems
- Experience in maintenance of refuse collection vehicles

- Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (DQC)
- General welding/fabrication skills
- Experience working on Electric Powered Vehicles
- Experience of proactively engaging customers to improve relationships for the long-term and continue to drive value.
- Self-aware yet highly resilient individual capable of challenging and being challenged.
