Summary

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Swale and Maidstone to assist with the appointment of a Housing Advisor, on a 4-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary:

The Housing Advisor will provide professional housing advice and assistance to individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties, including those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The role involves making statutory homelessness decisions under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended), developing and reviewing personalised housing plans, and supporting applicants to access sustainable housing solutions. The postholder will act as a caseworker for clients owed a housing duty, with a strong focus on reducing reliance on temporary accommodation and supporting households into settled housing.

Responsibilities:

Provide housing advice and guidance to people experiencing housing problems, explaining the full range of housing options available.
Carry out enquiries and investigations to reach legally compliant decisions on homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended).
Assess the suitability of housing offers and temporary accommodation placements in accordance with legislation and statutory guidance.
Represent the council positively and professionally at the Community Hub, liaising with internal teams, partner agencies, and voluntary organisations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing legislation, case law, and statutory guidance relevant to homelessness and housing options.
Essentials:

Experience of providing housing advice and options to clients in a frontline service.
Experience of working with vulnerable households and understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
