Data Architect – Strategic Modelling and Innovation - Role overview

The VOA’s Data Architecture Team is recruiting for permanent Data Architects within Data Foundations in Information, Data & Analysis Directorate. The Data Architecture team is the voice of data for the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), providing guidance, producing artefacts and collaborating with key stakeholders for the purpose of:

  • Effectively managing VOA data assets
  • Facilitating communication between technical and non-technical teams
  • Championing data-driven design and adoption of data centricity
  • Providing VOA business streams with efficient, secure & reliable access to high-quality data

The team is part of the Information Data and Analysis Directorate (ID&A), within Finance, Data and Analysis Group. You will support the Head of Data Architecture to develop and deliver a high performing Data Architecture Service including the production data flow diagrams, understand, define and advocate for the agency’s data requirements, refine VOA data architecture principles and establish VOA’s data architecture framework. We are developing a long-term data architecture strategy and is focusing on maturing the VOA’s internal data architecture capability.

Data Foundations is a diverse multi-disciplinary team at the heart of VOA transformation supporting the Business Systems Transformation programme (BST) and contributing to the delivery of our Data Strategy. We have bold plans to unlock the value of the data in the Valuation Office Agency, and you will work on some of the most fascinating challenges and business problems in the civil service.

You will be joining at an exciting time with a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a broad range of Data Architecture and related initiatives gaining extensive experience in a broad range of activities. Our unit has a focus on leadership development with an open transparent culture based on collective responsibility and accountability.

Data Architect - Strategic Modelling and Innovation - Key Responsibilities

Your role will be to work closely with Head of Data Architecture, supporting the engagement with wider stakeholders and to establish and embed Data Architecture at VOA.

There might be later opportunity for Direct Line Management and/or lead and co-ordinate members of the wider Data Architecture & Modelling Team as part of key initiatives and activities.

Delivering:

  • Data domain and conceptual data modelling capability.
  • Lead design of Data Architecture Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Identify & trial innovative projects for improving efficiency.
  • Lead effort to define roles and professional training pathways for the Data Architecture team.
  • Define vision & objectives for Strategic Data Modelling.
  • Advocate for data centricity & implementation of data governance practices across all VOA business streams.

Supporting

  • Senior leader in raising profile of the data architecture team.
  • Data asset catalogue and risk register.
