West Yorkshire Police’s National VIPER Bureau is seeking an additional Technical Support Officers to provide 2nd line support for its national service. VIPER delivers video Identification Parades to half of the UK’s Police Forces in over 100 VIPER locations across the UK.

This role would suit someone with recent training or experience in software development who still enjoys hands-on in a practical working environment. On-going development in this area would be encouraged and supported for someone with the right initial skills.

You will provide 24/7 ( flexi-time office hours plus standby ) remote and on-site technical support and maintenance. As well as the servers and software that deliver that service. You will be the go-to for technical problems, delivering timely, high-quality service within agreed SLAs to VIPER’s Subscribers and staff. You will provide technical input to the ongoing development and design of the Service; it’s use of technology and how it is delivered.


Purpose of Role:
To provide specialist support and technical assistance to the National VIPER® Bureau Systems and IT infrastructure to ensure its integrity and availability. Participate in improvement initiatives, comply with information management legislation and the VIPER® SLA.

Key skills / experience required:
• A recognised formal qualification in Computer Studies OR equivalent OR relevant experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Server and Client operating systems, their deployment and ongoing management.
• Knowledge and experience in developing .Net and web technologies in a Windows desktop/server environment or similar.
• Knowledge of Network communication infrastructure, deployment, operations, and management.
• Knowledge of the design, deployment, operations and management of databases, web services and other IT systems.
• Ability to resolve and diagnose IT issues in an effective and logical manner.
• A full current driving license.
